Church caretaker
Joint Parish Safeguarding Officer

 

The Parish Safeguarding Officers at Buckingham Parish Church are responsible for ensuring that safeguarding policies are implemented and safeguarding requirements are met in all church activities and provision.  They work together to fulfil the role described below.
 
Person specification

 

  • Knowledge and experience of working with children, young people or vulnerable adults (eg in education, social work or as a health professional)
  • Basic understanding of safeguarding issues
  • Willingness to undertake required training for the role
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding all personal details and disclosure information
  • Good record-keeping skills
  • Basic IT skills (email; use of DBS portal)


Key tasks
 

  • Work with the PCC, incumbent and staff team to ensure that safeguarding policies and requirements are implemented in all provision
  • Liaise with the incumbent and staff team as appropriate over safeguarding issues
  • Provide advice and support to leaders, volunteers and parishioners over safeguarding issues raised
  • Liaise with appropriate authorities and with the Diocesan Safeguarding Officer on safeguarding cases
  • Ensure that appropriate parish-level safeguarding training is provided
  • Maintain adequate records of safeguarding concerns

Experience of working with children / young people / vulnerable adults would be useful (as would a teaching / social work/health service background); a basic knowledge of safeguarding would also be helpful but training will be provided.
